Welcome...

This month we celebrate the return of spring flowers, blue skies and days that beckon us to change our sedentary ways of winter. Let's get reacquainted with our bodies and think of them as wonderful spacesuits that have been lent to us for our stay on earth. Our energy level, our motivation and our mood are all related to how we care for our spacesuits.

With as little as 30 minutes of daily exercise, you can impact how you feel and react throughout the whole day. This month we explore movement vs. exercise, and a few ways to rediscover the joy of connecting with your body.

Movement vs. Exercise

Movement vs. Exercise Say both words out loud and notice your body's reaction. "Movement" may give you thoughts of flow, flexibility, forward motion, joy... "Exercise"often feels like something we "should" do and can create feelings of work, boredom, repetition and fatigue...

Life is movement. We begin to move before we are born and many of our early achievements are identified by what we have learned to do with our body (crawl, walk, climb... ). Death is the absence of movement, and somewhere along our journey through life, many of us lose touch with the joy of moving. Consciously or unconsciously, we begin to avoid movement in favor of more sedentary activities.

Want to have more energy? Feel more motivated? Improve your immune system? Look better? Enjoy life more? Here are a few things to try.
  • Aerobic movement needs to be part of every day's plan.
  • Even 30 minutes will make a difference in how you feel.
  • Vary your workout. Walk outside, follow a tape, dance, do yoga....
  • Include joyful music with your activity.
  • Find a partner to exercise with (human, canine, etc)
  • Drink lots of water during and after your activity.
  • Plan activity as early in your day as possible so you will feel its benefits all day.
  • Evaluate your success by your mood and energy level, not your weight.
  • Laugh a lot while you are moving your body.

Healing Arts

Creativity is one of the most healing gifts we have been given. As we reach inside and bring out a poem, a picture, a dance, a song, we bring ourselves firmly into the present and directly in touch with that part of us that knows how to heal.

Explore our new Healing Arts pages and share the poetry and art that has been created by various people during their process of healing and growth. These galleries are open to anyone who would like to share their creativity with us. Items are posted anonymously unless you request otherwise. We hope you enjoy your visit to our gallery and are inspired to explore your own inner gifts. If you would like to contribute to these pages, please contact us at dna@uplink.net.
